Timmy awoke gagging from tiny fingers inside his mouth.
Whaa?" He stared into the face of a hovering, beautiful fairy. "Who are you?" "Who do you think I am, Santa Claus?" she replied, reaching back inside his mouth. "Hmm, yes –" Timmy waved her off. "Wait! If you're the Tooth Fairy, why are you here? I haven't lost any teeth!" "I'm a bit early." "That's not how it works!" "Shhh ... How about this?" She held a golden coin before him. "Is that real gold?" "Yes. And you know what else is golden? Silence! So be quiet and do what I say. Understand?" Timmy nodded. "Silence. Got it." Timmy stood at the top of the staircase, his back to the stairs. The fairy hovered in front of Timmy holding a string attached to his last baby tooth. She offered Timmy the coin. He took it, smiling widely. She pushed just enough for him to lose his balance. Timmy toppled backwards. POP! the tooth was yanked from his mouth as Timmy fell down the carpeted stairs. The fairy examined the tooth then dropped it into the bag filled with teeth on strings that she carried. Timmy groaned awake at the bottom of the stairs to fairy fingers prying his fingers off the coin clutched in his hand. "Are you sure you're the tooth fairy?" he gurgled through his bloody mouth. The fairy retrieved her coin. "Kid, you just believe what you want to believe," then flew away with a beatific grin.
